MONDAY PUZZLE — Some of you will be reading this before the New Year, and some of you will be reading this when it’s 2018. This post is always tricky to pin down for everyone, so let me pre-emptively and retroactively wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope that no matter how you plan to or did celebrate, fun will be or was had by all, at the time it was actually had.

That settles it. I’m putting a TARDIS on my Amazon wish list. It will make things so much easier.

Matthew Sewell is back, and he helps us begin our new year in the toastiest way possible by burning the entire puzzle down.

I kid. What we have are five “torch songs” by famous musicians or musical groups, in the sense that each song has a word having to do with fire in it.

Today’s Theme

Our first example is 17A’s “Jon Bon Jovi torch song?,” which is “BLAZE OF GLORY.” Another example would be 59A’s “The Trammps torch song?,” which would be “DISCO INFERNO.”

Now you blow on the embers and find the other three theme entries.

Tricky Clues

Believe it or not, the hardest part for me was remembering the names of the songs in the theme.
